A date is a planned activity that allows a young man and a young woman to get to know each other better

It is interesting how things change over the time. In the 60's and 70's apps like Tinder, Bumble, Mutual etc did not exist.

This means, people had to instead of swiping to find a potential date, going to a place and talk to them in real life!

For The Strength Of Youth explains:

In cultures where dating is acceptable, it can help you learn and practice social skills, develop friendships, have wholesome fun, and eventually find an eternal companion.

Relationship attachment model.

"How to not marry a jerk" is a famous book by Megan Thorley. This book explains a little about what is called "RAM"

This pattern follows the next areas:

knowing, trusting, relying, commitment and touching.

“As you get to know someone, you can start to trust them. As they prove they are trustworthy, then you invest more into the relationship and start to rely on your partner and the relationship a little more. Once you are able to rely on your partner, then you can become more committed and add romantic touch.”

My personal experience in dating is different than the American style. In Costa Rica, we don't use to date until you are about 18. And dating someone, for the neighborhood of that person it means that he or she is about to start a relation.
